Description

From the series Tying Wishes. Cotton rope, brass . Color: Ivory, gold . Usage: Candle sconce / Backflow Incense Burner

A candle sconce constructed with cotton rope, viscose casing, and brass. The brass part is made by a metal turning master who worked as a technician for more than 45 years. The rope is developed especially for the piece by WKND Lab. The meaning behind it follows the same as an aubergine knot- making method. Traditionally, people associated an aubergine with babies because of the roundness and cuteness of the vegetable, which turned into a meaning of wishing the receiver a happy baby and a wonderful family. This artwork is a striking textile sculpture composed of intricately knotted white cords, skillfully woven into abstract floral forms. Each segment resembles a delicate cluster of blossoms, arranged vertically to convey a sense of organic movement. The texture is both soft and robust, highlighting the artist’s mastery over the medium. A thin green rod runs through the center, offering a vivid contrast and suggesting growth or vitality. The bottom transitions into a fringed rope, grounding the piece while adding an element of fluidity. This sculpture evokes themes of nature and permanence, potentially symbolizing life’s ephemeral beauty. Its minimalist color palette and elaborate knotting technique create a balance between simplicity and complexity, inviting viewers to explore its nuances and craftsmanship.

This artwork presents a strikingly intricate sculpture crafted from a series of meticulously knotted ropes. The piece stands vertically, evoking a sense of movement and flow. It is composed of dense formations of white knots that resemble organic structures, each tied with precision to create an interplay of texture and form. The knots vary in complexity, building a captivating visual rhythm as they ascend and descend the piece. A green, vertical element in the center breaks the monochrome scheme, offering a focal point and introducing a fresh dynamic to the composition. The lower end of the sculpture transitions into loosely hanging strands, adding a graceful finish. This work's unique combination of simplicity and complexity invites viewers to contemplate themes of connection and continuity inherent in its design, showcasing the artist's masterful manipulation of everyday materials to explore depth and dimension.
