My name is Pauline Rolandeau, and I go by the simple artist name: Pôline. If you emphasise the last syllable, it sounds like the French word for ‘connection’. That is exactly what I aim to create: a connection between the plant world that fascinates me and human beings.
Thanks to my work as a botanist, I have been able to observe plants in great detail, through powerful magnifying glasses. I then noticed some fabulous details.
Today, I let my keen eye wander through nature and each time my whole being is filled with wonder at the shapes, colours and complexity of the plant world. Through my drawings, I share a glimpse into the world of plants that surrounds us. I magnify what is sometimes only a millimetre in size, emphasising certain details. I do this using coloured pencils, my preferred medium for capturing the delicacy and softness I observe. Through my words, I blend the language of plants with that of humans. I forge a connection, conveying a message to bring living beings closer together—women, men and plants—each with their own unique way of moving.
