Description
This captivating artwork, created with colored pencils using PaintON, presents a meticulous illustration of a vine twining around a sturdy branch. The plant, with its tendrils, seems to waver between embrace and liberation, symbolizing an existential dilemma. The azure background evokes the sky or the sea, reinforcing a sense of freedom and infinity. The contrast between the vibrant green of the leaves and the brown wood underscores vitality in the face of stability. The inscription "Cling or embrace?" prompts the viewer to reflect on the nature of human relationships and choices. The technique employed blends fine detail with rich colors, making the work as aesthetically pleasing as it is thought-provoking. Each element is carefully placed to encourage profound reflection on the essence of connection and the decisions to be made in a constantly shifting world.
Presentation
My name is Pauline Rolandeau, and I go by the simple artist name: Pôline. If you emphasise the last syllable, it sounds like the French word for 'connection'. That is exactly what I aim to create: a connection between the plant world that fascinates me and human beings.
Thanks to my work as a botanist, I have been able to observe plants in great detail, through powerful magnifying glasses. I then noticed some fabulous details.
Today, I let my keen eye wander through nature and each time my whole being is filled with wonder at the shapes, colours and complexity of the plant world. Through my drawings, I share a glimpse into the world of plants that surrounds us. I magnify what is sometimes only a millimetre in size, emphasising certain details. I do this using coloured pencils, my preferred medium for capturing the delicacy and softness I observe. Through my words, I blend the language of plants with that of humans. I forge a connection, conveying a message to bring living beings closer together—women, men and plants—each with their own unique way of moving.
