Celandine, 2026

Tanya Sviatlichnaya

"Celandine" explores the threshold between observation and immersion. Inspired by a dense cluster of celandine leaves and delicate yellow blossoms, the composition dissolves the distinction between subject and surrounding space. Rather than presenting the plant as a botanical specimen, the work invites the eye to wander through overlapping layers where light, foliage and negative space continually exchange roles.

Executed in oil pastels and colored pencils, the painting juxtaposes passages of color with finely rendered botanical details. The composition unfolds less as a single image than as an experience of perception itself where the visible world becomes a gateway to something inward.

Part of “The Space Within" series, an ongoing body of work exploring the architecture of plants through close observation. Created through a practice of attentive looking, these paintings are guided by the idea that every living form carries its own intelligence and participates in a greater web of existence. Like a curtain slowly opening onto an unseen scene, each composition offers a glimpse into the hidden vitality that connects all life, inviting the viewer to renew the attention to the living world.
