Silvia Cuello is a Spanish artist residing in Bolivia since 2016. She graduated with a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Barcelona.
Her works has been showcased in Spain, France, the USA and most of all in Bolivia, where over the past few years she has held exhibitions in many important venues across the country and had multiple media appearances. Among others, she has participated of the Art Biennial Contexts, the Urban Art Biennial BAU and the Ñatinta festival, she has also been invited to participate in two artistic residencies.
She is a founding member of the “Mujeres Tijera" collective, the first collective of female artists in Bolivia that practice and promote the collage as a medium. She has written an article about collage in Bolivia that was published by Kolaj Magazine in 2019, and the same year one of her works was selected to accompany an article about Bolivia in Le Monde Diplomatique.
Formally her works are very varied since she is always experimenting, but conceptually they always breathe a tendency to explore human emotion and contradictions. In her own words: “breaking through the layers of social hypocrisy usually drives me to encounter a hidden sadness and loneliness that remain inside every individual. You encounter fascinating things when you don't run away from the storm".
