The Lord's Supper

Like Leonardo Da Vinci's work, produced between 1494 and 1498 and commissioned by Ludovico Sforza, Edu Danesi's Last Supper is a complex allegory.
Seated at the table, prestigious icons of the modern and contemporary era. In the center, in the place of Jesus Christ, is the artist Edu Danesi who looks at the viewer with the air of a dreamy thinker. This assertion is confirmed by the large number of quotations added to the work, such as that of David Bowe: "I'm a thinker, not a talker" or that of the dialogue between the rabbit and Alice from the film "Alice in Wonderland " by Tim Burton: "Alice - How long is forever? and the rabbit will answer: Sometimes, just one second!".
Among other icons, Frida Kahlo contemplates the body of Marylin Monroe and Freddie Mercury arrives in greatness in the cenacle, while the protagonists of the scene are busy with various activities and no one will look at him.
Edu Danesi takes references to Greek mythology and reinterprets them. The satyr plays the flute and enchants Woody Woodpecker. Woody Woodpecker wears the tattoo of an anchor, borrowed from that of Popeye, another cartoon character. The satyr also wears a tattoo that refers to Cupid, or Eros.
One could interpret that the nymphs accompanying the satyr on this scene are Kate Moss and Dita Von Teese. The gods and goddesses Marie Antoinette, Steve McQueen, Andy Warhol, Salvador Dali, Jean-Michel Basquiat completing the work.
The paper plane, represents Hermes the messenger of Zeus, and is blown by the west winds, Zephyr. The paper plane carries a message from Zeus from ancient times to the contemporary world.
The door at the bottom is the entry point to Tartarus/Hades, guarded by Cerberus, here illustrated by the dinosaur and its crown with 3 points.
Andy Warhol devours a plate of spaghetti. By this image, Edu Danesi, symbolizes Cronos who eats his own children, his creation. Andy Warhol, thus, devours his own creation: "Campbell's Soup Cans", his 1962 work.
The figures at the top are, on the left, Athena, the goddess of wisdom, artists and artisans, and on the right is Nike, the goddess of victory, sportsmen. Athena wears a bustier made from the skin of the goat Amalthée. This skin is magical and impossible to pierce.
On the table Corona beer refers to the goddess Ceres. Other minor characters are also present such as a jester/king's toad or even flying pigs.
Finally, Edu Danesi appropriates the skull, which is the seat of the soul and the strength of the intelligible, and reminds us of the Latin phrase "Memento mori", that is to say "Remember that you are dying ". At the same time, Salvador Dali, who ignores mortality, according to his own quote “I'm going to live forever. Geniuses don't die. so ready to listen to a piece of music from the group Dead Kennedys, which Steve McQueen has just offered him.
The artist refused to comment on his work, which is consistent with the statement in the work: "Explanation Kills Art". However, with or without divine inspiration, Edu Danesi has masterfully reconciled 5 eras - Greek antiquity, the Italian Renaissance, the Age of Enlightenment, modernity and the contemporary era -, with the elegance of integrating the symbols and icons from antiquity to the present day without breaks or breaks.
