Gerasim of Jordan, 2024

Viacheslav Kaidash

This painting, executed in warm shades of red and blue, depicts a touching moment from the life of Saint Gerasimos of the Jordan. At the center of the composition is Saint Gerasimos, with a long gray beard, holding prayer beads symbolizing his devotion and ascetic path. His gaze is focused on the paw of a lion that has come to him for help. The lion, suffering from a thorn in its paw, trustingly extends it to the saint. The lion's face expresses pain and hope, while Saint Gerasimos, with love and compassion, prepares to remove the thorn, demonstrating an act of mercy and care for God's creatures. In the background, an ornamental halo adds a sacred dimension to the scene, emphasizing the holiness of the moment. This work illustrates the core ideas of my artistic practice, focused on exploring God's presence in human life. The painting conveys moments of spiritual quest and unity, showing how divine intervention brings joy and inner peace. The depiction of Saint Gerasimos and the lion serves as a symbol of a profound and sincere dialogue about faith, possible in contemporary society. The painting invites the viewer to reflect on the importance of higher meanings in an era of technology and consumerism, showing that spirituality and personal growth can create a safe and sustainable future, inspired by the example of saints like Gerasimos of the Jordan.
