Description
This artwork is a striking example of contemporary abstraction, marked by a bold juxtaposition of geometric shapes and colors. The artist employed clean lines and striking contrasts to create a composition that immediately engages the viewer. The irregular rectangles and parallelepipeds, painted in white, black, gray and green, are arranged to create a dynamic and moving visual effect. These geometric shapes appear to emerge and advance toward the viewer, creating a unique depth and perspective within the apparent simplicity of the work. The touches of bright yellow add an extra dimension, enhancing the whole with bright accents that contrast with the darker and neutral tones. The use of color is mastered with remarkable precision. Areas of pure white provide a stark contrast to the deep black, highlighting the tension between light and shadow. Green, used sparingly, injects natural elements into this resolutely abstract composition, while gray acts as a moderator, balancing the whole. The sober black frame perfectly frames this work, emphasizing its resolutely modern and refined character. Each element of this painting is carefully orchestrated to captivate the eye and provoke deep reflection on form, color and space. In sum, this work is an exceptional example of how geometric abstraction can be used to create powerful and evocative compositions. She demonstrates undeniable technical and artistic mastery, while inviting viewers to explore and interpret its different nuances and meanings.
Presentation
In the tradition of great production designers (Alexandre Trauner, Ken Adam), Dean Tavoularis has discreetly established himself in the history of cinema, leaving his mark on around thirty films, including almost the entire work of Francis F. Coppola.
Trained at Disney (Lady and the Tramp, Mary Poppins), this son of Greek immigrants, settled in California, took drawing and architecture classes, before materializing the plans of Arthur Penn (Bonnie and Clyde, Little Big Man) and Michelangelo Antonioni (Zabriskie Point). Each of his shoots requires long hours of location scouting and documentary research, his secret for defining the opaque atmosphere of The Godfather or the humidity of Apocalypse Now, the misty exteriors of Hammett by Wim Wenders or the coquettish interiors of Carnage, his last film, directed by Roman Polanski in 2011. Since then, in Paris where he lives with the actress Aurore Clément, Dean Tavoularis paints canvases which he exhibits alongside the storyboards of his brother Alex, the very ones which were used studying the settings of his films.
