Description
This work of art, is a vibrant and bold exploration of geometric shapes and patterns. At first glance, it presents a collection of cubes and parallelepipeds suspended in an indeterminate, almost floating space, defying the laws of gravity. The artist plays remarkably with colors and patterns, creating a captivating visual dynamic. Each shape features a distinct pattern, from multi-colored stripes to black and white checks to yellow dots on a green background. The colors used are bright and contrasting - intense reds, vibrant greens, deep blues and sparkling yellows - adding a playful energy to the composition. The use of thick, black outlines enhances the clarity of shapes and patterns, while creating a bold contrast to the pure white background of the work. The seemingly random arrangement of the geometric shapes creates a feeling of movement and continuous transformation, as if the cubes were in the process of construction or deconstruction. This visual instability could symbolize deeper concepts such as evolution, uncertainty or fluidity of perception. The absence of traditional perspective and the use of multiple planes give the work a modern and almost cubist touch. This piece takes an innovative approach to geometric abstraction, where harmony and disorder coexist in delicate balance. In summary, this work is a splendid demonstration of the use of shapes and colors to convey movement and visual complexity. It invites the viewer to delve into a reflection on space, structure, and personal interpretation of contemporary art.
Presentation
In the tradition of great production designers (Alexandre Trauner, Ken Adam), Dean Tavoularis has discreetly established himself in the history of cinema, leaving his mark on around thirty films, including almost the entire work of Francis F. Coppola.
Trained at Disney (Lady and the Tramp, Mary Poppins), this son of Greek immigrants, settled in California, took drawing and architecture classes, before materializing the plans of Arthur Penn (Bonnie and Clyde, Little Big Man) and Michelangelo Antonioni (Zabriskie Point). Each of his shoots requires long hours of location scouting and documentary research, his secret for defining the opaque atmosphere of The Godfather or the humidity of Apocalypse Now, the misty exteriors of Hammett by Wim Wenders or the coquettish interiors of Carnage, his last film, directed by Roman Polanski in 2011. Since then, in Paris where he lives with the actress Aurore Clément, Dean Tavoularis paints canvases which he exhibits alongside the storyboards of his brother Alex, the very ones which were used studying the settings of his films.
