Description
This composition explores the fundamental tension between light and shadow.
A rigid grid divides the canvas into nine equal squares. Deep black alternates with a vibrant, ochre yellow. The arrangement creates a rhythmic visual pulse. Each color block claims its own territory with absolute precision.
There are no gradients. No visible brushstrokes disrupt the flat surfaces. The contrast is stark and immediate. This geometric rigor evokes the spirit of early twentieth-century abstraction.
The balance is mathematical yet emotionally charged. The yellow fields radiate warmth against the void of the black squares. This interaction generates a subtle optical vibration. The eye moves constantly across the surface in a structured dance.
The artwork transforms a simple pattern into a meditation on order and symmetry.
Every line is sharp. Every edge is definitive. The result is a powerful exercise in minimalism and color theory.
The piece relies on the purity of its form to command the surrounding space. The final effect is one of timeless stability and architectural strength.
The artwork is ready to hang.
Presentation
Klaus Hoffmann, born 1957
In his works, Klaus Hoffmann explores the interactions of colors and forms, the special color contrasts and the effect of pure monochrome color surfaces.
In doing so, he avoids figurative associations and orients himself towards the art movement of Concrete Art.
He mostly uses geometric forms, which can also show deviations and breaks.
His aim is to create works that only represent themselves and do not refer to things that are outside the pictorial space, in the visible world.
They should also enable a sensual experience of the colors and forms and their interactions.
He works with pure, high-quality pigments, which are rubbed into aqueous acrylic dispersion and applied in numerous thin layers to give the color surfaces depth and enhance their luminosity.
Self-primed raw linen, whose natural structure remains recognizable, serves as the picture support.
This incorporates the picture support into the work and creates an autonomous overall work.
Hoffmann was educated at the Wiesbadener Freie Kunstschule and Freie Kunstakademie Frankfurt, with a focus on painting, composition, and color theory.
