Description
This composition examines the tension between rich colors and absolute emptiness.
A deep violet dominates the left side. It meets a sharp, angular silhouette in black. This dark form cuts through the space with architectural precision. On the right side, a muted blue-green block provides a cooling contrast.
The interplay of these three areas creates a subtle sense of depth. No color gradients disturb the purity of the pigments. The edges remain clear and decisive.
This artwork underscores the emotional significance of color theory. It creates a balance between the liveliness of the violet and the sobriety of the dark tones.
The resulting image appears both stable and dynamic. Each section takes up the canvas with equal authority. The focus is entirely on the relationship between these geometric planes. The surface has a matte appearance that absorbs light.
This property enhances the intensity of the color boundaries.
This work can be hung directly.
Presentation
Klaus Hoffmann, born 1957
In his works, Klaus Hoffmann explores the interactions of colors and forms, the special color contrasts and the effect of pure monochrome color surfaces.
In doing so, he avoids figurative associations and orients himself towards the art movement of Concrete Art.
He mostly uses geometric forms, which can also show deviations and breaks.
His aim is to create works that only represent themselves and do not refer to things that are outside the pictorial space, in the visible world.
They should also enable a sensual experience of the colors and forms and their interactions.
He works with pure, high-quality pigments, which are rubbed into aqueous acrylic dispersion and applied in numerous thin layers to give the color surfaces depth and enhance their luminosity.
Self-primed raw linen, whose natural structure remains recognizable, serves as the picture support.
This incorporates the picture support into the work and creates an autonomous overall work.
Hoffmann was educated at the Wiesbadener Freie Kunstschule and Freie Kunstakademie Frankfurt, with a focus on painting, composition, and color theory.
