Description

In "In the City," renowned Ukrainian artist Viktor Konotopsky channels the spirit of Lyubov Popova's Cubo-Futurism to reimagine the urban landscape as a kaleidoscope of motion, form, and light. The painting is a dynamic puzzle of intersecting arches, rooftops, and facades that merge and fragment in perpetual transformation. City structures bend and fold into one another, abandoning realism in favor of abstraction that pulses with energy. Through bold color contrasts and shifting geometries, Konotopsky captures not a specific city, but the feeling of urban existence—the noise, rhythm, and relentless construction of modern life. The composition suggests architecture in flux, reflecting how cities are not fixed but constantly evolving, just like the people within them. By distilling the metropolis into angular shapes and compressed perspectives, the artist invites viewers to see the city not merely as a location, but as a living system—a space of tension between chaos and order, past and future.
Presentation
Viktor Konotopsky was born in 1967 in the village of Maleshkovka, Nedrigailovsky district, Sumy region.
Graduated from the Kharkiv State Art School and the Faculty of Arts of the Saratov State Pedagogical University named after Makarenko.
Worked as a drawing and drafting teacher, and an artist in the advertising field.
In the 90s, he lived and worked in Poland (Krakow and Szczecin) and St. Petersburg.
Viktor had many temptations to catch some fashionable artistic disease, but he remained himself.
Judging his painting by the standards of world artistic fashion is as absurd as declaring love with the memorized words of a popular literary hero. In this sense, it is naive, but the naivety of a professionally educated person. His paintings are realistic, although stylized. The landscapes are easily recognizable, but they contain a generalization leading to an image.
