Description
This artwork features a bold and vibrant still life. In the foreground, three red apples with green highlights captivate the eye with their realistic texture. They are arranged harmoniously in front of a towering earthy-hued jug, creating a striking contrast with the deep, luminous yellow background. Clean lines and geometric shapes add a modern touch to the composition, particularly the white square and black rectangle on the left. These elements reinforce the visual structure of the work, emphasizing the balance between simplicity and complexity. The expert use of light and shadow creates a subtle depth, giving the whole an almost tangible dimension. This piece masters the art of juxtaposing classic and contemporary elements, inviting the viewer to prolonged contemplation of its delicate details and striking contrasts.
Presentation
I was born in Saigon, Vietnam. I live and work in Charente-Maritime. I sculpt imaginary characters in stone using the direct carving technique which was transmitted to me in the René Coutelle workshop in Paris. It changed my way of sculpting, my relationship with the material as well as the act of creating. It is at the origin of a new inspiration allowing me to move away from conventional figuration. This allows me to become one with the stone and in this controlled letting go, to animate its apparent inertia, shine after shine, so that its echo responds to my different inner echoes.
I try to translate a vision of reality which takes into account the natural specificities of the block of stone. In this “reorganization of the mineral", I try to account through a dynamic back and forth, this relationship between outside and inside and this in a relationship of proximity or shift, of rupture.
