Description
This captivating work features a pale-skinned figure with a shaved head, exuding an aura of contemplation. The slightly tilted face is accentuated by bold yellow and red eyelids, contrasting sharply with the soft green background. The half-closed eyes suggest quiet introspection. The subject's purple garment, accented with a black collar with white polka dots, adds a touch of elegance. To the right, a plain brown vase holds stylized dried flowers, expressing the passage of time. The grainy texture of the paint gives the whole a distinctive visual depth. This composition, at once simple and enigmatic, invites the viewer to delve into a reflection on identity and the passage of time. Presentation
I was born in Saigon, Vietnam. I live and work in Charente-Maritime. I sculpt imaginary characters in stone using the direct carving technique which was transmitted to me in the René Coutelle workshop in Paris. It changed my way of sculpting, my relationship with the material as well as the act of creating. It is at the origin of a new inspiration allowing me to move away from conventional figuration. This allows me to become one with the stone and in this controlled letting go, to animate its apparent inertia, shine after shine, so that its echo responds to my different inner echoes.
I try to translate a vision of reality which takes into account the natural specificities of the block of stone. In this “reorganization of the mineral", I try to account through a dynamic back and forth, this relationship between outside and inside and this in a relationship of proximity or shift, of rupture.
