Passage, 2025

With Passage, the canvas is organized around a central crossing, like a tipping point between two states. The deep, enveloping burgundy red dominates the composition. It establishes a dense, almost organic presence, evoking warmth, memory, and a contained tension. This color is never uniform: it unfolds in nuances, frictions, and transparencies, revealing the richness of the material and the work of time on the surface.

At the heart of the canvas, a textured band in turquoise tones breaks this continuity. It acts as a threshold, a space of friction where the layers accumulate, crack, and interact. The plaster, worked in relief, captures the light and creates a visual rhythm that invites the eye to wander, to linger on the asperities, the bursts of light, the deliberate imperfections.

Circular, almost engraved lines appear as a watermark. Discreet yet persistent, they suggest movement, repetition, the idea of cycles. They inscribe a more introspective dimension within the material: Passage then becomes a metaphor for change, for that suspended moment when one leaves one state without yet reaching the next.

Neither entirely serene nor overtly conflictual, the artwork plays on this in-between space. The burgundy red asserts an emotional intensity, while the central band offers a breath of fresh air, a possibility of transformation. Passage thus proposes a sensory experience, where color and material converse to evoke crossing over, movement, and the continuity of life.
