Description
This artwork is a striking exploration of monochromatic abstraction, capturing the viewer with its bold contrast and dynamic texture. Dominated by vertical strokes, the painting features an interplay of black and white, creating a dramatic visual tension. Thick, textured swathes of paint cascade down the canvas, evoking a sense of movement and raw emotion. The centralized dark form enhances depth and draws the eye, anchoring the piece in a meditative balance. The juxtaposition of heavy black against stark white spaces emphasizes the visceral impact of light and shadow. This composition invites introspection, encouraging viewers to explore the nuances of form and texture. The organic flow of the brushstrokes suggests natural elements, perhaps reminiscent of rugged landscapes or turbulent skies. This artwork stands out for its ability to evoke powerful emotions through sheer simplicity and rhythmic complexity.
Presentation
Tomo Sakurai is a Japanese artist born in 1987 who lives & works in Tokyo, Japan. She had an awakening of her talent in pencil drawing as a teenager. It was the beauty of the shadow that completely fascinated her. After she studied graphic design at Yokohama College of Art, she went ahead to the path of the black and white by self-study. Her body of work is seemingly dark and peculiar, but it portrays light, hope, essence and desire.
