Description
This striking artwork is a monochromatic exploration of texture and contrast. A masterful interplay of black, white, and gray forms a dynamic composition. The paint is applied in thick, undulating layers that create a palpable sense of movement and depth. This tactile surface invites viewers to explore the swirling patterns and tactile sensation visually. The piece's diagonal orientation enhances its dynamic energy, suggesting chaos and order coexisting in harmony. The juxtaposition of smooth and rough textures draws attention to the complexities within the monochrome palette. This artwork challenges traditional notions of painting, focusing on the materiality of the medium. It resonates with both modern and abstract art enthusiasts, offering a raw and unfiltered glimpse into the artist's process and the evocative potential of color and form.
Presentation
Tomo Sakurai is a Japanese artist born in 1987 who lives & works in Tokyo, Japan. She had an awakening of her talent in pencil drawing as a teenager. It was the beauty of the shadow that completely fascinated her. After she studied graphic design at Yokohama College of Art, she went ahead to the path of the black and white by self-study. Her body of work is seemingly dark and peculiar, but it portrays light, hope, essence and desire.
