Description
"Spring camomile field" is a vibrant contemporary floral oil painting by French artist Natalya Mougenot, featuring expressive camomile blossoms in a loose, impressionistic style that appeals to lovers of modern floral art and bright, uplifting interiors.
Part of Mougenot's ongoing floral series, the work immerses the viewer in a dense field of camomiles, their pale petals rendered with thick, dynamic strokes that ripple across the surface like a living tapestry of light and movement.
Bold greens and blues anchor the flowers, suggesting stems and foliage that sway rhythmically, while soft yellows and lilacs flicker through the petals, evoking the shifting atmosphere of early spring.
Inspired by masters like Paul Cézanne, Henri Matisse, and Vincent van Gogh, Mougenot channels Cézanne's constructive brushwork to build underlying form, Matisse's bold color harmonies for emotional vibrancy, and van Gogh's swirling impasto to infuse the scene with living energy and rhythm.
Rather than focusing on botanical precision, the painting captures the sensation of standing inside a wild meadow, where color, air, and emotion blend into a single vibrant field.
Mougenot's unique style draws on modernist and post‑impressionist influences while remaining distinctly her own, marked by energetic brushwork, layered color harmonies, and an instinctive sense of composition.
The camomile field seems to expand beyond the canvas edges, giving the impression of continuous growth and renewal, a quiet celebration of resilience and joie de vivre. In this piece, structure is suggested rather than outlined, allowing the viewer's eye to wander freely and complete the forms, which enhances the painting's emotional resonance.
“The flowers let me paint with total freedom," Mougenot says. “I don't follow a plan — I let the brush move, I follow the energy of the moment."
She adds, “Art should be authentic. Every stroke should come from who you truly are, not what you think you should paint."
For Mougenot, the camomile field becomes a metaphor for inner vitality and calm strength: “I love them because they allow me to be completely myself," she explains.
“They are my language of expression, my way of showing vitality and life on canvas."
Painted in oil on stretched canvas, “Spring camomile field" measures 50 × 50 × 3.5 cm (approximately 19.7 × 19.7 × 1.4 inches).
Ready to hang, the painted edges continue the rhythm of the brushstrokes so it can be displayed beautifully with or without a frame.
This artwork is ideal for collectors seeking expressive contemporary floral paintings and for interior spaces—such as living rooms, bedrooms, creative studios, or welcoming entryways—that benefit from warmth, movement, and a serene yet energizing focal point.
Presentation
Natalya is a contemporary french artist living in Lyon.
She was born and grew up in Kazakhstan, the country known for its spacious steppes.
She arrived in France 2003. Since that moment she loves her adoptive country.
She started painting in 2017 and used it as a therapeutic and emotional release during times of crisis. She incorporates this therapeutic approach in her artistic creative process till now.
In her artistic practice she refers to the terms of metamodernism, which proposes to look at the world from the position of the inner adult.
As an artist and as a woman she translates the experience of her personal search for balance based on harmony between mind, soul and body. This balance, in her opinion, is the pillar for the inner adult.
Important components of her work are authenticity, soulfulness, sincerity, emotionality and honesty. She immerses the objects and the characters in the world where there is no falsity, rudeness, loneliness and indifference.
She works rapidly and is constantly sensitive to the details.
Her artistic process is a fine balance between a pre-meditation and spontantainty which helps her to create her expressive atmospheric artworks with a modern touch of impressionism by cultivating a naive art approach.
