Description
Sunlit Daisies is a contemporary expressive floral oil painting on canvas, 46 × 33 × 2 cm (18.1 × 13.0 × 0.8 in) by French artist Natalya Mougenot, inspired by the expressive spirit of Vincent van Gogh, his fearless approach to colour and brushwork, and above all, his profound desire to create and translate what he felt through painting.
Golden-yellow daisies emerge from a vibrant garden of deep greens, ochres, warm reds and touches of orange. Natalya uses bold, visible and energetic brushstrokes to transform flowers, foliage and light into an expressive visual experience. Rather than meticulously reproducing every botanical detail, she allows the paint itself to carry the emotion of the scene.
Van Gogh's influence can be felt in the intensity of the colours, the dynamic movement of the brushwork and the emotional connection with nature, but Sunlit Daisies remains entirely Natalya's own artistic expression. She is inspired not by reproducing another artist's work, but by the same fundamental impulse that makes painting meaningful: the need to create, to feel deeply, and to express something that cannot always be put into words.
This idea is central to Natalya's artistic philosophy. For her, authenticity is at the heart of art. She believes that the artist should not paint according to what is expected, fashionable or technically perfect, but should remain honest to what they genuinely see, feel and experience. Painting is a way of capturing a moment and transforming it through one's own sensitivity and visual language.
In Sunlit Daisies, the flowers therefore become more than a traditional floral subject. They express joy, vitality, warmth and the simple beauty of being present in nature. The spontaneous brushwork preserves the immediacy of the creative gesture, giving the work a sense of movement and life.
Natalya's approach echoes the spirit of artists who dared to see the world differently: to feel first, to create with courage, and to remain true to one's own voice. The result is a contemporary floral painting that celebrates both the beauty of nature and the freedom of artistic expression.
Sunlit Daisies would bring warmth and energy to contemporary, eclectic, Mediterranean, country-inspired, bohemian or nature-inspired interiors. It is especially suited to collectors drawn to expressive floral art, Van Gogh's artistic spirit, vibrant colour, gestural painting and authentic contemporary interpretations of nature.
For Natalya, authenticity is not a style—it is a way of creating. And when an artist paints from a genuine place, the viewer can feel it.
Presentation
Natalya is a contemporary french artist living in Lyon.
She was born and grew up in Kazakhstan, the country known for its spacious steppes.
She arrived in France 2003. Since that moment she loves her adoptive country.
She started painting in 2017 and used it as a therapeutic and emotional release during times of crisis. She incorporates this therapeutic approach in her artistic creative process till now.
In her artistic practice she refers to the terms of metamodernism, which proposes to look at the world from the position of the inner adult.
As an artist and as a woman she translates the experience of her personal search for balance based on harmony between mind, soul and body. This balance, in her opinion, is the pillar for the inner adult.
Important components of her work are authenticity, soulfulness, sincerity, emotionality and honesty. She immerses the objects and the characters in the world where there is no falsity, rudeness, loneliness and indifference.
She works rapidly and is constantly sensitive to the details.
Her artistic process is a fine balance between a pre-meditation and spontantainty which helps her to create her expressive atmospheric artworks with a modern touch of impressionism by cultivating a naive art approach.
