“Resting woman", 70 x 100 cm (27.6 x 39.4 inches), acrylic on heavyweight Fabriano paper, is a contemporary portrait of a woman's body by French artist Natalya Mougenot, created within her ongoing series devoted to women and inspired by the legacy of Henri Matisse.
Painted on beautiful heavyweight Italian paper, the work combines immediacy and durability: the paper is acid-free and made to last, offering a surface that supports both spontaneity and longevity.
For Natalya Mougenot, painting is an act of authenticity and emotional honesty. Her work is guided by intuition rather than realism, and this spontaneous approach allows the painting to remain close to feeling, gesture, and inner truth. The figure in “Resting woman" is therefore not rendered as a literal portrait, but as an intuitive presence — simplified, vibrant, and emotionally alive.
The artist's use of bright colors is essential to her language. Color is not decorative in her practice; it is a carrier of energy, intensity, and psychological meaning. The hot pink background, luminous yellow neck, electric blue hair accents, and vivid green lower field create a chromatic tension that reflects the vitality and complexity of the female experience.
This distance from realism is central to the work, because it allows emotion to speak more strongly than appearance.
Natalya Mougenot often refers to metamodernism, a sensibility that embraces sincerity, contradiction, tenderness, and contemporary uncertainty. In that spirit, her paintings are both direct and poetic, both personal and open-ended. They hold together softness and strength, vulnerability and force, simplicity and complexity.
She has been painting women for the past five years because this series helps her understand herself as a woman more deeply.
Through each portrait, she explores what it means to be a contemporary woman today: how identity is shaped by sensitivity, resilience, inner life, and the many roles women inhabit.
Her women are not passive figures; they are mirrors, symbols, and emotional spaces through which the artist examines her own experience and the broader feminine condition.
The standard format of 70 × 100 cm makes framing simple and flexible, which is ideal for collectors. Ready-made frames are easy to find, whether one prefers a clean modern look or something more decorative, depending on the interior.
For Natalya, the frame is not just a border or protection — it feels like a continuation of the painting, completing the composition and giving the work its final rhythm.
This also makes the artwork especially appealing for interiors that value presence, color, and personality. “Resting woman" suits contemporary homes, design-led spaces, creative interiors, and private collections that welcome figurative art with emotional depth and strong visual identity.
It is the kind of painting that can bring warmth and vitality to a neutral room, or enrich an already expressive interior with a strong feminine energy.
When a collector chooses a frame, it becomes a personal gesture — they add something of themselves, and that moment creates a real connection between them and the painting.
The artwork finds its place not only in a frame, but also in someone's space — and that is where it truly begins to live.

Natalya is a contemporary french artist living in Lyon.
She was born and grew up in Kazakhstan, the country known for its spacious steppes.
She arrived in France 2003. Since that moment she loves her adoptive country.
She started painting in 2017 and used it as a therapeutic and emotional release during times of crisis. She incorporates this therapeutic approach in her artistic creative process till now.
In her artistic practice she refers to the terms of metamodernism, which proposes to look at the world from the position of the inner adult.
As an artist and as a woman she translates the experience of her personal search for balance based on harmony between mind, soul and body. This balance, in her opinion, is the pillar for the inner adult.
Important components of her work are authenticity, soulfulness, sincerity, emotionality and honesty. She immerses the objects and the characters in the world where there is no falsity, rudeness, loneliness and indifference.
She works rapidly and is constantly sensitive to the details.
Her artistic process is a fine balance between a pre-meditation and spontantainty which helps her to create her expressive atmospheric artworks with a modern touch of impressionism by cultivating a naive art approach.
