My road, 2026

Olha Symonenko

"In this work, I reflect on life choices, fatalism, and the inevitable passage of time, drawing upon the poetry of Robert Frost and the metaphor of autumn fading. The intertwined branches of wild grapes and mature hops symbolize the intersection of life paths, where every knot and twist of the vine represents a decision once made. The text of the poem, inscribed directly into the canvas, emphasizes the melancholic yet clear thought of how a single chosen path completely alters the course of human destiny. The fragile beauty of a slipping summer here merges with the wisdom of accepting autumn.
The main emotional accent of the composition belongs to the clusters of wild grapes, rendered in deep shades of ultramarine blue and dark indigo. They contrast sharply with the crimson, wine red / burgundy, and purple leaves, conveying the drama and maturity of nature. I painted the hop cones in a palette of muted olive green, golden ochre, and sand beige, giving the canvas a nostalgic, autumnal resonance. The texture of the background, executed with blurred vertical drips, combines delicate nuances of pastel lavender, dusty rose, and pearl grey. These soft tones create a sense of purifying air and the distinct freshness that only exists immediately after a heavy rain.
This painting is my visual manifesto of contemplation and poetic, gentle melancholy. By combining detailed botanical forms with calligraphy and a vibrating, fluid background, I sought to capture the fragile, transitional state of nature and the human soul paused at the moment of choosing.
