Parallel Ground | Large Neutral Abstract Diptych, 2026

Parallel Ground is an original large-scale abstract diptych by Tatiana Malinovscaia, created in 2026. Composed of two unique acrylic paintings, each measuring 120 × 90 cm, the work explores the relationship between architectural structure, movement, reflection, and atmospheric space.

While creating this diptych, I wanted the two canvases to communicate without becoming mirror images of one another. Strong vertical forms intersect broad horizontal passages across both compositions, establishing a shared visual rhythm. One panel develops warmer earth tones, while the other introduces cooler greys and luminous ivory areas, creating a subtle dialogue between warmth and restraint.

I built the surfaces gradually through multiple layers of professional acrylic paint, using palette knives, brushes, scraping, glazing, dry-brush techniques, and expressive mark-making. Areas were repeatedly added, partially removed, and reworked, allowing traces of earlier layers to remain visible. This process gives the paintings tactile depth and creates subtle variations as light moves across the surfaces.

The sophisticated neutral palette combines warm beige, sand, taupe, mocha brown, ivory white, greige, stone grey, charcoal, and black. Dark linear elements provide structure and contrast, while softer transitions and textured white passages introduce luminosity and openness.

Although entirely abstract, Parallel Ground may evoke fragments of contemporary architecture, reflections on water, weathered surfaces, or distant landscapes reduced to their essential forms. Rather than depicting a specific place, I wanted the diptych to remain open to interpretation, allowing the viewer to discover a personal landscape within its layers.

The two paintings were conceived as a unified artwork while retaining their individual identities. Displayed together, they create an impressive composition approximately 180 × 120 cm before spacing. Their scale and restrained palette make Parallel Ground particularly suited to contemporary residences, spacious living rooms, executive offices, boutique hotels, reception areas, and sophisticated commercial interiors.
