Description
A singular composition where the human body fragments to make way for light.
The painter here explores a détourned figurative approach.
Dark silhouettes seem to merge with geometric beams of light.
The gesture is central.
The movement suggests an aspiration or projection forward.
The marked contrast between areas of shadow and light surfaces creates a fantastic atmosphere.
Each figure becomes a conduit, a passage between darkness and clarity.
The oil technique allows for the achievement of subtle gradations and a matte depth.
The visual rendering evokes a lucid dream or an allegory on the human condition.
The space is saturated with a deep gray that accentuates the whiteness of the light cones.
This painting created in 2025 plays with the repetition of forms to establish a precise visual rhythm.
The treatment of the surfaces emphasizes a search for the materiality of the gaze and the invisible.
Presentation
Olivier Massebeuf is a French painter, born in Lyon in 1963. He moved to Paris in 1982 when he was admitted in the Fine Arts School. He wasn't at ease with this institution and its teachings: he dropped out a year later and began a course in English, but didn't give up on painting.
The artist does figurative painting, and is fascinated by gesture and movement, inspiring life, in his lifelike characters.
