Description
This work is organized into a rigorous grid of sixteen squares, each measuring 10.4 cm. Created as a monotype on 300 gsm paper, it combines acrylic paint and ultramarine pigment to explore the nuances of a monochrome palette and express the variations of the sea. The fragments are mounted within a 2 mm white Canson mat, which enhances the clarity and structure of the composition.
Each square becomes a small, self-contained scene: washes of ultramarine, turquoise flashes, milky veils, and darker traces. Layers of material overlap, creating tactile relief and diffusion effects where water guides the color. Some segments evoke fragments of sky, reflections on the water, or abstract horizons; others lean toward a freer, almost atmospheric gestural style.
The contrast between the grid's geometric structure and the fluidity of the brushwork creates visual balance. Touches of white appear sporadically, brightening the composition and creating moments of visual breathing space. The repeated format sets a rhythm for the viewer's experience: a sensitive mosaic where each square acts as a window onto an imaginary landscape, playing with depth, transparency, and the vibration of pigments.
The piece forms a cohesive whole while unfolding—from one square to the next—a multitude of sensations. It is as if the uniform blue serves as a common thread connecting a series of internal variations, each revealing a different vibration of the same evocative landscape.
The work is framed in black molding with glass glazing.
Each square is signed on the back.
It comes with a certificate of authenticity.
