Description

This oil painting explores the fusion between the human body and its environment. A female silhouette blends into a rigorous geometric space. The black and white checkered pattern saturates the space. It embraces the curves of the body to create a striking optical effect.
The movement suggests a fluid torsion. The figure seems to emerge from a vortex, defying traditional perspective. The precision of the line emphasizes a study of form and volume.
The artist opposes the immobility of the world here. He transforms a figurative figure into a play of graphic contrasts. The technical rendering accentuates the sense of depth. The subject becomes an architectural element, almost hypnotic.
This 2020 creation is part of a reflection on structure and instinct. The radical chromatic contrast reinforces the visual tension of the scene. The dark frame stabilizes the centrifugal energy of the motif.

Presentation

Jack Gage is a painter born in 1946 in Boston.

he has a very physical approach to the canvas. Painting allows him to express more instinctive and suggested work, like a freeze frame. The artist's work asserts itself in opposition to the void and in reaction to the static world.

Over time, his work evolved towards a figurative and precise style for the shapes of "Harlequin" characters.
