Description
The gaze plunges into a geometric abyss. The black and white checkerboard stretches and curves. It creates a hypnotic vortex. In the center, a human form seems to melt into the setting. The body adopts the same patterns as the surrounding space.
This visual fusion plays with perception. The lines twist. The volumes fade in favor of a rigorous optical illusion. The figure folds in on itself. It becomes a pattern among others.
The mastery of contrast structures the composition. White brings the light. Black defines the depth. Each square follows a precise curve to accentuate the spiral effect. The whole evokes a feeling of controlled vertigo.
The graphic work relies on mathematical precision. The transition between the subject and the background is almost invisible. This oil painting is presented in a dark and sober frame. The artist's signature appears discreetly in the bottom left.
Presentation
Jack Gage is a painter born in 1946 in Boston.
he has a very physical approach to the canvas. Painting allows him to express more instinctive and suggested work, like a freeze frame. The artist's work asserts itself in opposition to the void and in reaction to the static world.
Over time, his work evolved towards a figurative and precise style for the shapes of "Harlequin" characters.
