Description
A windswept river landscape unfolds beneath enormous moving clouds. Turquoise, blue, violet, gray, and charcoal forms sweep across the sky in broad layered bands, while the dark river below reflects pale traces of light. The low horizon gives the clouds unusual dominance and makes the atmosphere feel expansive and unsettled.
The work captures a windy, cloudy day when the shadow of a dense cloud moves across the earth and finally covers the viewer. Although the sun disappears behind the clouds, its light remains visible in the reflection on the water, creating a subtle contrast between darkness overhead and brightness below.
Broad color fields, fragmented edges, and expressive brushwork transform the landscape into something more atmospheric than literal. The river remains recognizable, but weather and light become the true subjects of the composition, giving the scene both movement and emotional weight.
The cool palette makes the artwork especially suitable for contemporary interiors with neutral, minimalist, or natural materials. It may also make a thoughtful gift for someone drawn to rivers, dramatic skies, shifting weather, and expressive interpretations of nature.
Shipping / Display: Ready to hang. The artwork is shipped in a protective box.
Presentation
Daniil Mikhailov is a contemporary artist. A member of the Union of Artists of Russia since 2019, he has presented solo exhibitions at the Vasnetsov Art Museum (2022) and the Museum and Exhibition Center of Kirovo-Chepetsk (2023). His work has also appeared in major regional and national exhibitions, including Russia XIII in Moscow (2024) and Russian North 13 at the Pskov Museum-Reserve (2023).
Daniil Mikhailov's practice is centered on impression: the moment when looking turns into contemplation. Rather than describing a subject in exhaustive detail, he seeks to preserve its atmosphere and emotional charge.
His technique combines a soft, transparent, watercolor-like underpainting with dense, opaque brushwork applied by brush or palette knife. The contrast creates luminous shadows, saturated areas of light, and a surface that moves between delicacy and physical presence.
For Daniil Mikhailov, deliberate understatement is essential. By leaving forms partially unresolved, he gives color, light, and gesture greater emotional weight, inviting the viewer not simply to recognize a place or object, but to enter the state in which it was experienced.
