Description
“An evening in London" is a contemporary surrealist painting about life in a big city, where every window hides an entire world filled with its own joys, worries, dreams, and little dramas. Against the recognizable panorama of London, with its historic architecture, the River Thames, and famous landmarks, a captivating theatre of everyday life unfolds. Dozens of windows become miniature stages where entirely different human stories play out simultaneously.
One of the distinctive features of this artwork is that the painting itself is designed to resemble a large window, created using mirrored elements. The mirrored strips imitate a window frame and create a remarkable sense of presence: the viewer feels as though they are standing at their own window, observing the lives of neighbours through the windows opposite. The boundary between the viewer's real surroundings and the depicted city becomes almost invisible.
A different story unfolds behind every window. Neighbours are arguing, an elderly woman is lovingly baking a pie, and an older man is preparing an Italian dish. A young woman is enjoying a bath, a cat is mesmerised by birds on the television screen, and a dog is patiently waiting for its owner to return. Somewhere, a handsome man admires himself in the mirror, a ballerina practises her movements, one man is carrying out home renovations, while another conducts mysterious scientific experiments. Two female friends laugh as they try on clothes, an elegant woman gets ready for a date, a lively group celebrates a birthday, a grandmother plays with her grandchild, and an artist immerses herself in the meditative process of painting.
Among these everyday scenes is a reference to art history: in one of the windows, a scene from Gustav Klimt's famous painting “The Kiss" comes to life. This romantic image seems to bring a masterpiece from the world of classical art into the everyday life of a contemporary city. Artistic eras meet within a single window, while love emerges as a universal story that never loses its power over time.
The painting captures the rich diversity of human relationships. A young couple argues, their emotions laid bare, while an elderly couple embraces tenderly, reminding us of feelings that withstand the passage of time. Behind ordinary windows lie love and loneliness, bustle and tranquillity, humour and tenderness. Each scene is a small story that may feel familiar or meaningful to the viewer. Together, they form a vivid portrait of a great city that never ceases to surprise.
Yet among the many windows, one is entirely different. Inside, an Indian couple dances with extraordinary energy, as the man spins his partner in a sweeping movement. The window itself seems to rotate along with the dancers, defying the usual order of space and transforming the dance into a whirlwind of joy. This scene becomes a striking focal point of the painting — a moment when everyday reality loses its stability and gives way to the pure energy of life. It reminds us that even amid familiar routines, there is always room for spontaneity, passion, and a little magic.
This original contemporary artwork will appeal to those who appreciate unusual art, cityscapes, architecture, and paintings filled with hidden details. It will make a striking addition to modern, eclectic, or art-inspired interiors, becoming a captivating focal point in a living room or creative space. The painting reveals something new each time it is viewed. After all, every window holds a story of its own — and perhaps the most fascinating one is unfolding right now, just across the street.
Presentation
Irina: "I am full-time artist. I find my happiness in doing art. Art is a part of my soul, my energy, my vision of the world. I consider myself a multi-faceted artist, I like to experiment with materials. I realized that I can create beauty not only with paints. I create three-dimensional artworks with volumetric elements. I work in two directions: mosaic paintings and wall sculpture art. I use decorative found objects, mosaic, plaster, wood, shells, crystals, gemstones, anything that can realize my ideas. My art is full of life and joy. The main theme is a Woman, her life, thoughts, feelings, relationships with people and the world".
