Description
This geometric composition plays on superposition and contrast. The artist marries acrylic with collage to create a fragmented space. Areas of bright colors delineate suggested architectural structures. The eye circulates between blocks of yellow, blue, and red.
The paper support, visible beneath the paint, brings an intellectual dimension. Fragments of printed texts interlace with the pigment areas. This dialogue between writing and form invites reflection on the freedom of thought and access to knowledge.
The relief of the material accentuates the surface. Marked impasto emphasizes the sensation of depth. The arrangement of lines creates a play of decentered perspectives. The background alternates between transparency and opacity. This visual tension guides the observation towards the center of the canvas.
The whole rests on a rigorous balance. Rectangular shapes oppose the light curves at the top of the image. The precise execution underlines a search for structure and space. The piece ends with a black calligraphic detail located in the lower right corner.
Presentation
Self-taught painter, living in Le Mans, Stéphane Cantin has resumed his brushes for ten years.
He offers through his paintings a new perspective on the world around us; to look at it both as a colorful succession inviting reverie but also as an opening to deeper reflections.
Artistic freedom and freedom of the press being the two great paths leading to free thought, the artist brings them together in works that are both simple and complex with the sole objective of making everyone move forward on the path of reflection and of freedom.
