Description
This artwork is a striking piece that commands attention through its abstract yet organic composition. At the heart of the canvas lies a compelling form that evokes the imagery of natural geological formations or biological elements. The central figure is an elongated oval that presents a deeply textured surface, resembling the fossilized imprints of an ancient organism or the stratified layers of rock. The palette is dominated by rich, earthy tones of black and sepia, punctuated by lighter hues that highlight the intricate details within the form. The contrast between the dark, almost obsidian-like border and the lighter, ochre-toned central area creates a dramatic visual impact, drawing the viewer's eye towards the complexity of the textures within. The artist's masterful use of layering techniques is evident in the way the materials interplay to create depth and dimension. The fluidity of the central figure, with its undulating curves and organic shapes, stands in stark contrast to the rigid, defined edges of the outer border. This juxtaposition adds a dynamic quality to the piece, making it seem almost alive with movement. One of the most distinctive aspects of this artwork is its ability to evoke a sense of both mystery and familiarity. The form could be interpreted as a cross-section of a mineral deposit, the remnants of an ancient fossil, or an abstract interpretation of a biological element, inviting viewers to engage with it on a deeply personal level. In sum, this artwork is a captivating exploration of form, texture, and contrast, compelling viewers to delve into its enigmatic beauty. The meticulous attention to detail and the evocative use of color and texture make it a standout piece that bridges the realms of abstract and natural art.
Presentation
My name is Michael R. Grine and I am an process oriented artist. I use a combination of found objects, acrylic paints, and aerosol paints to create abstract patterns on wood and canvas.
Statement
Curiosity. Emotion. Experimentation. Exploration. Leap of faith. Pursuit of knowledge. These words only begin to describe what my art signifies or represents. I was born an artist and have always identified myself as an artist. I possess an insatiable creative drive to make art out of the images I see in my mind. To help satisfy this impulse, I am always exploring new places and trying new things. Having freedom of expression and not being limited to one style or technique of making art are paramount to my identity as an artist. I love the many different processes of making art and experimenting with new ways of creating art.
My inspiration stems from color, music, literature, and the excitement about the unknown possibilities of taking everyday objects and using them in a way that differs from what the manufacturer intended. I use a combination of found objects, acrylic paints, and aerosol paints to create abstract patterns on wood and canvas. Some of my methods include combining different chemicals and paint on paper or in plastic or wood box frames to distort vivid colors that are mixed or thrown right on the canvas. The result is the distortion of lines and contours, and layers of translucent or opaque paints on the canvas or in random patterns.
