Benin Born in: 1979 Emerging artists

Rafiy Okefolahanwas born on January 7, 1979 in Porto Novo. He lives and works in Benin.

Formed in 2007 at the National School of Arts in Dakar, it participated in 2009 for professional encounters in contemporary art, Ouidah, Benin, organized by the PSICD (Program to support cultural initiatives decentralized) and the EPA, the School of African heritage.

The creations of Rafiy are inspired of the cultural heritage of the different countries of Africa. It is steeped in a Beninese practice linked to the mobile phone which is to assimilate the figures in signs, then of the tracer on the walls of houses in order to remember the number of his relatives.

Very widespread in recent years, these symbols have had the effect of changing the urban landscape. It is thus that it retrieves on the walls of parisian numbers of small ads to cut to reinterpret them on his canvases.

Today his art is also exercised by photography and video. These techniques more expressive allow him to deepen his ?work painted. In perpetual progress, its techniques and its mastery assert themselves each day.
