What do these masterpieces: Guernica (Picasso) and the Coronation of Napoleon (David) have in common? You probably have contemplated them, stunned, the first time you have seen them and will remember them for a long time. One of the reasons these paintings have put you in such a trance like state is that they have very large dimensions, if not monumental. With 27m2 for Picasso and more than 50m2 for David, they are what you call large-format painting. Try hanging them up in your living room! Thankfully, large-format painting can however have more modest dimensions without losing this esthetic bias that attracts the attention of the spectator.
