Description
This black and white photographic work captures with meticulous precision the melancholy tranquility of a deserted street in the village of Toutencourt in Picardy on a morning of thick fog. The composition of the photo is marked by a linear perspective which inevitably guides the viewer's gaze along the roadway, which seems to mysteriously dissolve into the persistent mist on the horizon. The buildings lining the road, austere and silent, bear the marks of a bygone agricultural past. The rough textures of the walls, contrasting with the velvety softness of the fog, add an almost palpable tactile dimension to the work. The subtle play of light and shadow accentuates the architectural details while creating an atmosphere that is both intimate and foreign. The lines of the electrical cables, finely traced in the whitish sky, introduce an element of modernity which contrasts with the ancient appearance of the structures. This juxtaposition underlines the duality between tradition and progress, suggesting a reflection on the passage of time and the evolution of urban landscapes. The photographer manages to capture the essence of solitude and silence, inviting the viewer to introspective contemplation. The total absence of human presence reinforces the feeling of abandonment and timelessness, making this scene both ordinary and deeply evocative. In short, this photograph transcends simple representation to become a visual meditation on memory, solitude and the ephemeral nature of our daily environment.
Presentation
Philippe Grincourt was born in France in 1952. He lives in Brittany.
He worked in Paris as an expert in transport and logistics. Over the years, he has produced reports in North Africa, the United States, street photography, documentary photography on a religious procession photographed over 20 years or his work on the memory of the battlefields of the Sum of the war of 14-18.
Today an author-photographer, he is a very promising emerging photographer with his work on Breton landscapes.
He was able to give birth to an obvious graphic design by capturing in his viewfinder the mineral elegance of all these granites subjected to the breaking waves, whose scarlet whiteness contrasts with the very well perceived blackness of the clouds which justify them. The quality of the blacks and whites and the perfectly balanced grays constitute the profusion of this pictorial density in exemplary prints. He is a master in the art of making “tableaux vivants” out of his photographs. Alain Mingam (Winner and former President of the World Press Photo Contest)
