Description
This black and white work of art captures with rare intensity a harnessed trotting horse race on the beach of Plouescat, an event that combines tradition and dynamism. The image seems frozen in a precise moment when the horses, powerful and muscular, are launched at full speed. Every detail of the horses and sulkies is rendered with remarkable precision, from the twitching of the muscles to the concentration of the jockeys. The dramatic contrast between the cloudy skies, laden with omen, and the light, almost white ground, further accentuates the raw energy emanating from the scene. The horses' silhouettes, sharp and determined, create a dynamic diagonal that directs the viewer's gaze across the image, capturing the momentum and imminence of the moment. The numbers on the horses and the focused faces of the drivers add a narrative aspect to the photograph. It tells not only of the speed and competition, but also of the tenacity and passion of the participants. The grainy texture of the sand, marked by hoof prints, gives a tactile and real impression, transporting the viewer directly to the beach. This painting is a celebration of movement, a contrasting study of nature and sport, immortalized in a careful and subjugated composition. It transcends the simple documentary and becomes an expressive work of art, charged with emotion and vivacity.
Presentation
Philippe Grincourt was born in France in 1952. He lives in Brittany.
He worked in Paris as an expert in transport and logistics. Over the years, he has produced reports in North Africa, the United States, street photography, documentary photography on a religious procession photographed over 20 years or his work on the memory of the battlefields of the Sum of the war of 14-18.
Today an author-photographer, he is a very promising emerging photographer with his work on Breton landscapes.
He was able to give birth to an obvious graphic design by capturing in his viewfinder the mineral elegance of all these granites subjected to the breaking waves, whose scarlet whiteness contrasts with the very well perceived blackness of the clouds which justify them. The quality of the blacks and whites and the perfectly balanced grays constitute the profusion of this pictorial density in exemplary prints. He is a master in the art of making “tableaux vivants” out of his photographs. Alain Mingam (Winner and former President of the World Press Photo Contest)
