The Wolf, A Raccoon and A Hippopotamus, 2024

Dubravka Lazic

This captivating triptych artwork presents a vivid portrayal of nature's interplay between life and decay. The first panel features lush greenery and smooth, dark pebbles contrasting with an ancient tree root and a solitary golden orb, evoking a sense of timelessness. The central piece highlights a delicate scene of moss wrapping around stones, while a gnarled tree branch stretches elegantly across, bridging two contrasting realms of verdant foliage and tranquil water. In the final panel, a mystical waterfall cascades with ethereal beauty, crowned by star-like reflections that shimmer against a dark, cavernous backdrop. The harmoniously balanced composition emphasizes the cyclical nature of life, inviting contemplation of the delicate balance between growth and erosion. With its meticulous detail and serene palette, this triptych serves as an eloquent testament to the fragile, yet enduring beauty of the natural world.

The exploration of the concept of play as an artistic impulse presents playful, almost "baroque-written"photographs that are the result of a repeated (recycled) notion of play. Starting from the fact that every artistic work should be supported in an authentic experience, Dubravka Lazić restores the personal sense of play by using old, forgotten (but safeguarded) children's toys, creating new "worlds" through realistic models and presenting them through the medium of photography. Dubravka Lazić is an artist and professor of photography whose work combines analog and digital techniques, often exploring the interplay between reality and imagination. Her practice is marked by a poetic visual language that intertwines narrative, memory, and experimentation. Through photography, photograms, and mixed media processes, she creates layered images that evoke intimacy and reflection, while also highlighting the subtle tension between tradition and contemporary approaches.
