Renaissance Play House - Living Room, 2026

Dubravka Lazic

A meticulous staging of domesticity. This photography captures a miniature living room. The scale creates a poignant tension. Soft blue stripes define a cozy sofa. A tiny radio stands nearby. A small coffee table holds delicate glassware. Every detail feels deliberate. The composition blends nostalgic everyday objects with a surprising presence. A solemn religious figure looms over the scene. This contrast bridges the gap between the mundane and the sacred. The artist employs a clean white background. This void isolates the arrangement. It transforms the space into a psychological theater. Light falls evenly across the surfaces. It highlights the textures of the fabric and the smoothness of the furniture. The arrangement evokes a sense of longing and memory. It explores the intimacy of home through a surreal lens. The pale color palette enhances the dreamlike quality. A single blue chest of drawers anchors the center. A small plant adds a touch of organic life. The scene concludes with the silent gaze of the sculpture.

Renaissance Play House is a photographic series that juxtaposes Renaissance drawings and paintings with plastic toy furniture, creating unexpected visual encounters between historical heritage and contemporary consumer culture. Through the deliberate collision of opposing elements—timeless and disposable, refined and playful, sacred and ordinary—the works invite viewers to question established values and cultural narratives. The resulting tension becomes a visual metaphor for transformation, suggesting that perhaps it is time for a new Renaissance.
