Description
This photograph confronts two temporalities of Paris: that monumental, of its architecture, and that fugitive, of the life that passes through it. In front of the Pont Alexandre III, perfectly recognizable by its ornaments and golden figures, a cyclist and a child cross the foreground in a rapid movement.
The blur transforms their silhouettes into ephemeral traces, while the bridge, the Seine, and the monumental column remain precisely drawn. This opposition between sharpness and movement creates a tension between what seems permanent and what lasts only a moment.
The light, the intense blue of the sky, and the golden flashes of the architecture evoke the emblematic image of Paris, but the moving presence of the figures disturbs this almost ideal vision. The city is no longer just contemplated: it is inhabited, traversed, and lived.
Through this work, Bianca Cassandre uses blur as a visual language to explore the passage of time and our perception of urban space. The ordinary moment thus becomes the meeting point between memory, movement, and permanence.
Pigment print on Hahnemühle Photo Rag® Baryta 315 g/m², presented with matting in a black aluminum Nielsen frame.
Presentation
Bianca Cassandre is a photographer born in New York and based in Paris, whose practice lies between documentary instinct and artistic abstraction. Working mainly in the street, she uses movement, light, and intentional blur to transform fleeting encounters into images that oscillate between the recognizable and the indeterminate.
Holding a Master of Fine Arts in Photography and Image-making from Paris College of Art, she sees photography less as a recording of the visible than as an exploration of perception and memory, being interested as much in what an image can suggest or leave suspended as in what it shows.
Bianca's work was the subject of a four-page report in the magazine, highlighting her distinctive use of intentional blur and movement. Her professional background also includes assignments around the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Her works have been exhibited at the Bastille Design Center, Les Frigos and The Muisca Gallery, as well as at DCS Contemporary in Karlsruhe, Germany.
