Description
This photograph captures a moment of calm in the heart of the Parisian movement. On the banks of the Seine, a seated woman remains sharp and present while passersby move through the foreground, their silhouettes transformed by blur.
The contrast between immobility and movement structures the entire image. The figures passing become almost transparent, like traces left in space, while the central figure seems momentarily detached from the rhythm of the city. Around her, the Seine, the bridges, and the Parisian architecture place this intimate scene in an immediately recognizable landscape.
The composition also plays on oppositions: proximity and distance, presence and disappearance, agitation and contemplation. The blue tones of the sky and water respond to the warmer colors of the silhouettes and the vegetation, giving the scene a depth that is both real and almost pictorial.
Through this work, Bianca Cassandre uses blur to make perceptible the passage of time. The photograph no longer just freezes a moment: it unites, in a single image, those who pass and the one who remains.
Pigment print on Hahnemühle Photo Rag® Baryta 315 g/m² paper, presented with matting in a black aluminum Nielsen frame.
Presentation
Bianca Cassandre is a photographer born in New York and based in Paris, whose practice lies between documentary instinct and artistic abstraction. Working mainly in the street, she uses movement, light, and intentional blur to transform fleeting encounters into images that oscillate between the recognizable and the indeterminate.
Holding a Master of Fine Arts in Photography and Image-making from Paris College of Art, she sees photography less as a recording of the visible than as an exploration of perception and memory, being interested as much in what an image can suggest or leave suspended as in what it shows.
Bianca's work was the subject of a four-page report in the magazine, highlighting her distinctive use of intentional blur and movement. Her professional background also includes assignments around the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Her works have been exhibited at the Bastille Design Center, Les Frigos and The Muisca Gallery, as well as at DCS Contemporary in Karlsruhe, Germany.
