“Where We Play" From the series “Where We Belong"
Medium: Acrylic and oil pastels on canvas.
Size: (Unstretched): 105 × 106cm;
(When mounted on a stretcher frame): 95 × 96 × 2.5 cm
Presentation: Stretched on a wooden stretcher, ready to hang.
In this work, I explore the feeling of belonging through play — one of the most natural forms of freedom, connection, and presence. A group of children plays in the water beneath the rain, while sunlight breaks through it. Weather and warmth, movement and stillness meet in a single moment, creating a sense of spontaneous joy.
Rain and light become a metaphor for the changing nature of life: even through difficult moments, warmth can emerge.
I work with layers of translucent paint, combining atmospheric passages, gestural marks, and drips. By allowing the paint to move and act on its own, I balance control with letting go, allowing the figures to almost emerge from the landscape itself.
For me, this scene is connected to childhood, motherhood, and the memory of fleeting moments of closeness that remain with us. “Where We Play" is about the places where we naturally feel most like ourselves — and about how a sense of home can emerge not only from a physical place, but from being present with those with whom we share it.
