Shapeshifter, 2023

Sadie Weis

A dynamic surge of energy defines this 2023 composition. The artwork merges screen printing with acrylic and neon accents. Vibrant sweeps of violet and lime green collide against a stark white void. The brushwork feels urgent. It captures a moment of fluid transformation. The form suggests a celestial event or a microscopic reaction. This tension reflects a deep fascination with the intersection of art and science. The creator draws inspiration from cosmography and the invisible forces of dark matter. Light dances across the surface through luminous pigments. Every curve implies movement and evolution. The conceptual approach turns a flat plane into a multidimensional experiment. It is a study of instability and grace. The gaze is drawn toward the sharp red edge that anchors the swirling mass. This contrast heightens the sense of suspension. The final result is a poetic exploration of physical laws and abstract imagination. The piece concludes with delicate, translucent washes of pale purple at the base.

Weis plays with the reality of what a painting is and what a silkscreen can be, as she creates her own unique hybrid method of painting and silkscreen printmaking (typically done in simulated multiple editions) through the process of printing through a blank silkscreen, deemed 'Polymonotype', creating a multi-layered fusion of these aspects. These works portray various talismans and imagery based on vivid dreams of the artist.
