Description
This work is inspired by the space phenomenon Luminous Fast Blue Optical Transient (LFBOT), which is one of the most mysterious and energetic types of explosions in the universe. Unlike normal supernovae that take months to dim, these rare cosmic flashes shine intensely in blue light and fade away in a matter of days.
In 'Hot Blue Transciesne', Weis plays with the reality of what a painting is and what a silkscreen can be, as she creates her own unique hybrid method of painting and silkscreen printmaking (typically done in simulated multiple editions) through the process of printing through a blank silkscreen, deemed 'Polymonotype', creating a unique multi-layered fusion of these aspects in one piece.
This vibrant artwork merges scientific curiosity with abstract imagination. A swirling vortex of deep cerulean and electric blue dominates the composition. The form suggests a celestial event or a mineral transformation. A luminous white core radiates from the center. This brightness creates a powerful contrast against the dark, jagged purples at the base. Two precise golden lines slice through the chaos. They provide a geometric structure to the fluid movements of the pigment. The artist draws inspiration from cosmography and the mysteries of dark matter. This piece reflects a deep dialogue between nanophysics and visual art. The technique blends pigment ink and screen printing with the unexpected texture of crystals. Neon elements add a contemporary glow to the organic shapes. The result is a conceptual exploration of nature's hidden structures. The composition captures a moment of cosmic melting. It balances the unpredictable energy of a geode with the mathematical precision of a scientific diagram. Every brushstroke evokes the vastness of the sky and the intimacy of a microscopic specimen. The artwork concludes with a sharp, crystalline point at the bottom edge.
Presentation
Sadie Weis is a transmedia artist and creator of work combining elements of abstract imagination with real scientific influences through installations, paintings, sculptures and experiments. She received a BFA degree from the University of Kansas School of Visual Art in the United States. She has had solo exhibitions of her work in Los Angeles, Berlin and New York City and participated in many international exhibitions. Weis has completed research residencies with Astrophysicists at Leibniz-Institut für Astrophysik Potsdam exploring Cosmography and dark matter as well as with Nanophysicists at Paul- Drude-Institut für Feskörperelektronik in Berlin exploring the dynamic possibilities between art and science relationships for building a sustainable future. She was the first featured artist of the 2018 Berlin Science Week and a featured emerging artist for Loop-Raum für Aktuelle Kunst at the Preview Berlin Art Fair. Weis has appeared in numerous fine art publications including Stillpoint Magazine and Momus Magazine.
