Firenova, 2022

Sadie Weis

A collision of scientific inquiry and abstract imagination. This artwork captures a moment of fluid transformation. Vibrant oranges and yellows erupt from the top like a solar flare. Deep indigo tones provide a stark, atmospheric contrast. The composition descends in a sharp, crystalline wedge. Neon accents pierce the center with an electric glow.
The artist blends a background in fine arts with research in astrophysics and nanophysics. This intellectual rigor informs the conceptual structure of the piece. It evokes the raw energy of cosmography and the mystery of dark matter. The technique is a sophisticated hybrid. Pigment ink and screen printing merge with the physical presence of crystals.
The white void surrounding the form enhances the feeling of weightlessness. It suggests an object suspended in a vacuum or falling through a digital sky. The textures shift from ethereal washes to dense, mineral-like deposits at the base. Every brushstroke and layer explores the dynamic relationship between the tangible and the theoretical. The result is a precise study of light and geological decay.

Weis plays with the reality of what a painting is and what a silkscreen can be, as she creates her own unique hybrid method of painting and silkscreen printmaking (typically done in simulated multiple editions) through the process of printing through a blank silkscreen, deemed 'Polymonotype', creating a multi-layered fusion of these aspects. These works portray various talismans and imagery based on vivid dreams of the artist.
