This work was inspired by childhood memories. It evokes a child's imaginative view of the world where every moment is an adventure waiting to unfold. "Behind the tall grasses, we curiously spied, unfurling wings scattering the sky".

Olga Oreshyna

Canada Born in: 1966

Olga Oreshyna is a wood artist working in a unique sculptural style, her work highlights the diverse possibilities of wood with forms that balance geometry, organic shapes, and colour.

Every piece of wood in her sculptures has been shaped and fitted to a specifically designated position – countless bits of wood assembled into enigmatic, loosely geometric compositions. Creative process involves building up layers of paint then tearing them down. The hidden layers are revealed through sanding or scrubbing. It's so similar to our life, what we don't see still matters. We all have layers that are not visible and I find discovering the depth of these layers the most interesting in people and paintings.

Much of her inspiration comes from the wood itself. Collecting wood simply for its natural beauty is the start of many of her works. Using wood that has been recycled gives her the most pleasure. She appreciates the ability to transform a row resource into a timeless piece of art. In her belief, wood retains the spirit of the living tree and she just tries to honour it.Olga Oreshyna ist eine Holzkünstlerin, die in einem einzigartigen skulpturalen Stil arbeitet.
