Reader XC, 2026

Inspired by Stephen King's quote, "Books are uniquely portable magic," this sculpture poetically encapsulates the experience of reading and its extraordinary power. King compares books to magic because, like a spell, they have the ability to transform our perception of reality, evoke intense emotions, and transport the reader to other worlds without requiring any material resources other than the printed words.

The "magic" of books lies in their ability to ignite the imagination. A seemingly simple object—paper, ink, and binding—becomes a living universe when the reader opens it. Each story takes shape in the mind of the reader, making the experience intimate and unique: two people can read the same book and inhabit different worlds. This capacity to create personal realities is what makes reading a profoundly creative act.

The idea that this magic is "portable" reinforces its value: a book can accompany you anywhere, adapt to any circumstance, and offer comfort, adventure, or knowledge at any time. Unlike other forms of entertainment or learning, it doesn't depend on technology or special conditions; simply opening it is enough to begin the experience.

Finally, King suggests that books possess a lasting and accessible power. In an age of fleeting stimuli, the magic of books remains intact, ready to be activated again and again. Thus, reading emerges as a silent yet powerful form of enchantment, capable of enriching life and expanding the boundaries of human experience.
