Description
This captivating work is distinguished by its bold simplicity and conceptual depth. A vibrant red cube, with sharp edges and smooth surfaces, occupies the entire visual space, creating an impression of imposing yet minimal presence. The uniform, monochromatic texture invites the viewer to contemplate the very essence of the color red, while also prompting reflections on perception and materiality. The subtle interplay of light and shadow on the cube's facets suggests a hidden three-dimensionality, while the absence of distracting details highlights the purity of the geometric form. This work stands out for its ability to generate an intense aesthetic experience through the deliberate reduction to a single visual element, transforming the mundane into the extraordinary.
Presentation
My immersion in the concepts of contemporary design and architecture during my youth in the 1960s and 1970s had a great influence on my work.
The end of my studies in sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Namur (Belgium) marked a turning point. The search for light became self-evident, a necessity; capturing the essence and defining it by creating a space with clean, symbolic forms, such as the square or the circle. I also discovered the artist James Turrell, whose vibrant and spiritual art moved me deeply and encouraged me to continue my explorations.
The material allows me to express the vibration of colors and their radiance. Bringing forth a luminous presence always gives me joy.
