Description
A torso is already an incomplete thing. That is what makes it worth carving. You get the body without the parts that tell you who it is.
I cut this one thin and upright, in a dense golden Greenheart hardwood, then drilled through it and set a copper ring into each opening. The rings are ground flush, which took longer than the carving. If they stood proud they would read as decoration. Level with the surface, they read as part of the body.
Holes, and then something in the holes. That was the whole idea.
Slim black pedestal. Unique piece, hand-signed. 40 cm.
Presentation
I am a contemporary artist who primarily works with wooden sculptures using a method called "power carving," which means that I use electric hand tools to sculpt the form. My art is characterized by soft organic shapes inspired by nature, where I like to explore the abstract.
The experimental is a strong driving force in my creative process. I work with a variety of techniques to enhance the expression in my works, including the use of verdigris copper, staining, and painting with acrylics. By combining these materials and methods, unique and innovative sculptures are created.
My works are distinguished by their lively surfaces and unexpected details, where the natural qualities of the wood interact with my experimental vision. Through my sculptures, I want to arouse curiosity and invite reflection on the forms of nature and the possibilities of materials.
