Contact details
Galerie Liminal, founded by artists, offers an inside view of the history of painting. Dedicated to the study and exhibition of abstract works, whether gestural or geometric, it highlights the diversity of the artists' creative processes, singular paths and theoretical reflections. Although formal analogies may emerge between their works, each is distinguished by the singularity of its genesis and its path.
In a world saturated with images, where judgements are based on superficial similarities, it is essential to give a voice back to the creators. The artists' work goes beyond first aesthetic impressions to plunge to the heart of their personal approach and the very substance of their work.
The name Liminal has its origins in the Latin limen, meaning ‘threshold’. This concept evokes moments of transition, moments of uncertainty when we switch between ordinary and altered states of consciousness. The liminal space, although often destabilising, opens up new perspectives, offering opportunities for expression and creativity free from established norms.
Liminality is also part of phases of social transition, such as crises or rites of passage, which encourage profound transformations. In the contemporary context, the creation of liminal spaces is essential to stimulate self-exploration, encourage innovation and forge links between individuals, while revealing an often unsuspected inner potential.
Galerie Liminal has chosen to exhibit works exclusively in black and white, greyscale or chrome. This deliberate desaturation refocuses the art on the purity of the sign, the trace and the writing. The forms, stripped of their colour, return to the essential: universal lines that echo primitive forms and the history of artistic gestures.
During this first year, our exhibitions will feature a visual dialogue between several artists. Faced with the works, the viewer will be invited to go beyond the initial confusion - is it just one artist or several? - to immerse themselves in the depth of each creation. This experience leads them to examine the ‘grey matter’ of the image, as if they were penetrating the very mind of its creator.
Finally, each exhibition will be accompanied by texts written by the artists themselves. These writings, bearing witness to their technical approach and their personal motivations, will offer the public an intimate insight into their work, while at the same time providing valuable introspection for the creators.
Galerie Liminal invites visitors to cross visual and conceptual thresholds, where each work becomes an intimate encounter with the very essence of creation.
