Lost Face, 2026

Juliane Hundertmark

This figurative oil artwork presents a raw and visceral exploration of animal mimicry. A porcine form emerges from a stark white background. The execution is bold and expressive. Thick textures and earthy tones create a sense of physical presence. The creature displays a wide, unsettling grin. This smile suggests a complex layer of satire.
The Berlin-based artist employs a personal form of expressionism to unmask human truths. By blending human-like expressions with animal features, the piece delves into psychoanalysis. It strips away formality to reveal instinctive behaviors. The palette shifts from deep ochres to bruised purples. These colors enhance the organic, almost fleshy quality of the subject. The brushwork is energetic and spontaneous. It mirrors the social tensions of the contemporary era. This approach recalls the critical spirit of early German masters while maintaining a modern edge. The composition focuses entirely on the head. This tight framing forces an intimate and provocative encounter with the subject. Every smudge and streak of oil adds to the psychological depth of the image. The final result is a piercing observation of desire and satisfaction.
