Description
The artist deploys here a radical graphic language, using a medium unusual for him, embroidery. The black line imposes itself on a saturated orange background. Each line seems to trace an instinctive path. The drawing is inscribed in an oval shape that contains the energy of the gesture.
The composition oscillates between abstraction and suggested figuration. Curves intertwine with straight segments. Architectural structures or ancient symbols are discernible. The chromatic contrast reinforces the material presence of the pigment.
The visual rhythm is sustained by repetitions of fine lines. These streaks create an effect of radiance around the central core. The void and the full respond to each other with precision. The balance rests on the tension between the rigor of the frame and the freedom of the line.
The final rendering evokes automatic writing. The hand guides the eye through a labyrinth of organic shapes. The whole closes in a simple geometric harmony. The signature applied in the bottom right concludes this plastic research.
Presentation
After a childhood in a modest background, he studied philosophy, including Jean Grenier, then attended the workshop Germaine Richier in the post-World War II. Based in Paris since the late 1950s, Ladislas Kijno has, over the decades, multiplied sprays paint and has become one of the masters of the so-called crumpling technique. His meeting with Louis Aragon and Ponge in 1943 has also led to many work in collaboration with poets.
Countless tributes inhabit his creations: Nicolas de Stael, Nelson Mandela, then Gagarin Galilee; but the fighting alongside the Algerian and Vietnamese peoples, but also Tahiti, China, Easter Island. He participated in the Venice Biennale in 1980. In the 1990s, he worked in the rose of the portal of Notre-Dame de la Treille Lille, completed 9 years later.
The painter-artist Ladislas Kijno, 91, of Polish origin and installed in France for 20 years, died in 2012. Considered one of the major artists of the twentieth century and one of the masters of abstraction , specialist technical and creasing of vaporization on canvas, Ladislas Kijno was near Louis Aragon, a meeting which influenced his work often in close relation with poetry.
