"Gerard Boersma paints people who do things that they rarely think, such as walking down the street, standing at the deli counter, or getting money from an ATM. Given his subject matter and realistic style, at first glance one might think his paintings are photographs, but they are purer.
They have all the high contrast and drama of a Renaissance painting, but it is set in modern times. Brilliant lights shine on the glass and chrome, playing through a busy composition, but nothing is random; Nothing is painted by chance. The various surfaces are all exceptionally well rendered, whether marble, glass, tile, metal, fabric or denim .And despite the busy nature of the composition, there is still space and room for your eye to survey the scene, taking in every fascinating detail.

Presentation
Artist Statement from Gerard Boersma: I create colorful and highly detailed works of art to express my love for the modern human as well as my concerns about contemporary city life. My hyperreal paintings are based on photographs I took during long walks through my hometown and major cities. They show people on the streets, in stores, public transport and museums or zoom in on popular products. To me these glimpses of everyday live are important as they say a whole lot about todays society. They show the way people see themselves, interact or are influenced by modern developments in various ways. I observe it, enlarge it and paint it. That way I freeze time and our fast and busy lives are forever captured in a moment. Finally ready to be observed quietly.
Biography I'm a professional and international recognized artist for over 20 years well known for my own style of realist painting. My art is in museums, galleries and private collections worldwide (North and South America, Europe, Asia, Australia, Africa). Paintings were shown alongside the biggest names in art history at leading art fairs in Europe and United States. I've studied painting and fine art at the School of Arts Minerva in the Netherlands, specializing in meticulous form of realistic painting. I currently live and work in Leeuwarden, The Netherlands.
